COUNTY VIA NATIONAL BOARD PROGRAM
Montgomery County Nonprofits Providing Emergency “Food and/or Shelter” assistance
to County Residents Encouraged to Apply by August 11th, 2016 Application Deadline
Kulpsville, PA – August 3, 2016 - The North Penn United Way has been notified by the National Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) that the Montgomery
County jurisdiction has been awarded the amount of $302,273 to be used to supplement current and existing nonprofit emergency programs within Montgomery County, PA. This funding is made available through the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) and will be allocated to applicants who are capable of providing mass shelter to homeless individuals and families, and to food pantries who have incurred costs for food purchases.
Under the terms of the grant from the National Board, local agencies chosen to receive funds must: 1) be a private voluntary nonprofit or unit of government, 2) be eligible to receive Federal funds, 3) have a DUNS number, 4) have an accounting system, 5) practice nondiscrimination, 6) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 7) if they are a private voluntary organization, they must have a voluntary board. Qualifying
agencies are urged to apply.
The spending period for this phase is from April 1, 2015 through March 31st, 2016 (reimbursement). Eligible programs for consideration will include Mass Shelter/Safe Haven
Shelter per diem, Mass Feeding Meals Served per diem, other types of emergency shelter assistance, Eviction Prevention assistance (rent/mortgage), and Emergency Utility assistance.
The deadline for receipt of completed applications is 4:00 PM, Thursday, August 11th, 2016. Agencies who feel they qualify will find the application and additional information
pertaining to requirements on the NPUW website. Those who wish to apply may access forms and instructions via the website at www.npuw.org, under the “Resources” tab. Complete the application and send by US Mail, to North Penn United Way, PO Box 1345, Kulpsville, PA, or deliver to our office at 1715 Sumneytown Pike, Suite 203, Kulpsville, PA, 19443. The North Penn United Way convenes a Local EFSP Board made up of several representatives from the community and the County. These Local Board members are responsible for selecting appropriate categories and applicants to receive funding under this program and determine how the funds awarded to Montgomery County are to be distributed among those who qualify for the EFSP.
The Montgomery County funding award selection is made by a National Board which is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s FEMA department, and consists of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, The Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities and United Way Worldwide. The award amount is based upon available statistics for the total number of unemployed as compared to the total number of unemployed in all qualifying jurisdictions. The National Board distributes funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of emergency food and shelter programs in high-need areas of the country.
