The North Penn United Way convenes a Local EFSP Board made up of several representatives from the community and the County. These Local Board members are responsible for selecting appropriate categories and applicants to receive funding under this program and determine how the funds awarded to Montgomery County are to be distributed among those who qualify for the EFSP.
The Montgomery County funding award selection is made by a National Board which is chaired by the Department of Homeland Security’s FEMA department, and consists of representatives from American Red Cross, Catholic Charities USA, The National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA, The Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities and United Way Worldwide. The award amount is based upon available statistics for the total number of unemployed as compared to the total number of unemployed in all qualifying jurisdictions. The National Board distributes funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of emergency food and shelter programs in high-need areas of the country.
